Ryan Schmitz is in his first year as a tennis professional here at Pine Brook Country Club. Ryan has varied experience, both as an exceptional player, teacher & coach. Ryan’s previous coaching experience includes stops as the Men’s assistant tennis coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and most recently as a tennis professional at the Wilton New York YMCA.
A native of Upstate New York, Ryan finished his junior career in the top 40 in USTA’s eastern section (ETA) and was a nationally ranked junior. Ryan began his college tennis career at NCAA Division I Stony Brook University, where he played both singles and doubles. In 2012, Ryan transferred to NCAA Division I Siena College where he graduated summa cum laude and played both number one singles and doubles his junior & senior years. Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Siena College and in 2020, earned a Masters of Business Administration from University of Rochester.
Tennis has always been a big part of Ryan’s entire family. Ryan’s grandfather and father are competitive tennis players and got the whole family involved. Both Ryan’s brother & sister also competed nationally as juniors and played college tennis. In 2009, the Schmitz family was named USTA Family of the year for the Eastern section.
Ryan lives in Worcester with his wife who just began a five-year medical residency as a doctor at UMass Medical Center.
Ryan is working in many aspects of the Pine Brook tennis program. He is excited for the opportunity to help the members of Pine Brook improve their tennis games and reach their potential.
